What is Dimension table?

A table containing the data for one dimension within a star schema. The primary key is used to link to the fact table, and each level in the dimension has a corresponding field in the dimension table. Dimension tables describe the business entities of an enterprise, represented as hierarchical, categorical information such as time, departments, locations, and products. Dimension tables are sometimes called lookup or reference tables.
